Dennis Moore, the founding executive director of DeSoto Sunrise Homes, died Tuesday in Billings, Mont. He was 57.
His death came from complications from a spinal cord injury he suffered June 4, 2006, his 55th birthday, when he fell from the roof of his three-story house in Billings.
The injury left him paralyzed.
"He was a great guy," said his wife, Vicki Moore, who was with him when he died about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
"He was peaceful and quiet."
Moore underwent several surgeries after the fall.
"The doctors told us that it was miraculous that he survived the fall," Vicki said. "We were blessed that he could be restored to the limited quality of life he had for almost three years. He got to see both of his granddaughters."
Moore started DeSoto Sunrise Home for Girls in 1980, a home for girls from dysfunctional families.
He served as executive director of Parents, Let's Unite for Kids in Billings before his injury.
He also leaves a son, Nick Moore of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Katie Keenan Aberle of Billings; his mother, Mickie Moore of Olive Branch; a brother, Stephen Moore of Brentwood, Md., and two granddaughters.
There will be no funeral.
Mickie Moore said she is planning a memorial service but details were incomplete.
