When Maggie Doben's first-graders find a wheelchair in the middle of their room, she meets their curiosity with questions of her own: Who might need to use this? Would they be able to get around the classroom? How do you think it works?
During an eight-week session, her students at the Cambridge Friends School have the chance to befriend at least half a dozen people with a wide range of physical disabilities.

Montana People First Group Takes on SSI Marriage Penalty

Montana People First members hope that their efforts will inspire others around the country to join them in asking their Senators and Representatives to take legal action to remove the marriage penalty from the SSI program. Woman Helps Difficult Children Find Their Place to Grow in the School System

Kathy Lascala, 52, has a rare passion for educating difficult children that public schools have discarded. She works with The Children's Guild, a group of private schools in Maryland, helps these children — who have a range from emotional to behavioral disabilities including ADD (Attention Deficit Disorders)— develop the skills they need to manage their behavior and improve their achievement so they can return to the public schools.
