The American Psychological Association's (APA) Task Force on Guidelines
for Assessment and Treatment of Persons with Disabilities
is seeking public comments on
proposed Guidelines for Assessment of and Intervention with Individuals
Who Have Disabilities. This 90-day period for receipt of comments will end on July 31, 2009.
The goal of the proposed guidelines is to provide psychologists with
general principles and approaches to:
1. Working with people with disabilities, including accessibility,
communication, and relationship skills
2. Assessment of persons with disabilities, including selection of
appropriate measures and adaptation of measures
3. and Treatment and provision of clinical services, including
frameworks for disability sensitive and disability affirmative therapy.
Comments will only be accepted via this online comment form. Members of the Guidelines Task Force will review all comments and make appropriate revisions to the document. Once in final form, the guidelines will be reviewed by APA governance and sent to the Council of Representatives for adoption as APA policy.
Please note: The task force is particularly interested in receiving feedback that addresses the following: Content of the document: comprehensiveness, completeness, research support, and missing issues; and Clinical usefulness.
